Automated Terminals

Automated terminals are terminals (mostly container) in which some or all of the container handing process is carried out without direct human interaction throughout 100% of the duty cycle. As volume of trade grows, the volume of cargo being transported and handled at seaports increases.

This in turn gives rise to increase in number and size of cargo vessels. Based on these facts, it is believed that the number of container boxes that would be handled by major ports across the world would gradually increase. Despite this, there is limit to the efficiency factor that could be squeezed out of the manually driver cargo handling equipment at most of the existing container terminals.Welcome to the world of semi- or fully automated container terminals.

Most large container ports are already struggling with traffic congestion that are increasing the landing cost of container shipment for the shippers as well as delaying ships at the berth for longer period.  The most practical solution to solve these problems is the introduction of automated container handling system. This promises to halve the former processing time of containers handling through the manual process.Under this method, an automated crane can handle optimum containers move per hour and sustain it without fatigue throughout the day.

This is in sharp contrast to the traditional system, where a human driver controls each element in the process chain. In order to have an efficient automated system, the following modules must be fully implemented:Ship-To-Shore (STS) Cranes, Automatic Stacking Cranes, Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs), Automated Container Identification System, Automated Integration of all terminal equipment.
